Females are under-represented in school headship in many regions of the world. Social-cultural reasons have already been used to explain this discrepancy, particularly in Western countries. In Vihiga District inside the Republic of Kenya, the problem is that just 24% of head-teachers in mixed secondary schools were women. Social-cultural factors contributing to this scenario had been unknown. A descriptive survey design was used to establish perceptions of stakeholders on social-cultural factors that influence gender imbalance in appointment of head professors in merged secondary universities in Vihiga District, American Province, Kenya. The study included 34 Head teachers, thirty four Board of Governors Chairpersons, 34 Parent or guardian Teacher Connection Chairpersons, 465 teachers (310 males and 155 females) and a single District Quality Assurance and Standards Officer (DQASO). Questionnaire and In-depth interview were utilized to collect data. The study found that institution location, college leadership practices, male dominance, dual position and spouse attitude were perceived as impact on on gender imbalance inside the appointment of head instructors. Based on the findings, it is recommended that improvement of infrastructure and accessibility with the upcoming universities should be done to draw and retain female head-teachers in these colleges, communities ought to be sensitized in gender equal rights and to esteem female brain teachers and advocacy needs to be enhanced for the girl child education.
